September’s Tabin Adventure: Lake Powell

Our September adventure was one of our best! In three short days, we experienced all kinds of nature and had a perfect camping experience. Here’s what we did:

Camping

We camped both nights at Lone Rock Campground (at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area). The campground is dispersed, open camping right on the beach. You just roll up and find a spot, but don’t get stuck in the sand! Here’s our stunning view looking east:

And here’s the view looking west — with the enormous Lone Rock which the campground is named after. This was RIGHT from our little tabin’s front door!

The sad part is that Lone Rock SHOULD be surrounded by water deep enough that people could drive their boats around it!! Tragically, Lake Powell is so low at this point that the water was far from it. Look at the comparison pictures below. It’s shocking to see how low the water is. I hope there’s even a Lake Powell to visit 5 years from now.

Look at our sexy rig. We LOVE it. So cute, so perfect for us!!! We know the massive trailer people laugh at our tiny little get-up, and that just makes us love it even more.

If the view wasn’t amazing enough, we also enjoyed some five star dining, a la chef Jac Chandler. Tiny workspaces and limited supplies can’t stop this guy…

Jac made dinner both nights — salmon and pork chops. And he made amazing salmon sandwiches for lunch the next day….yum! And, and, and….of course we had delicious breakfasts too. This is living!

After dinner both nights, Jac made a nice fire and we sat outside and watched the stars. So memorable!

Antelope Canyon

One of the main reasons we went to Lake Powell was to visit nearby Antelope Canyon, a stunning, wave like sandstone slot canyon located on Navajo land just outside Page. I’ve wanted to experience Antelope Canyon for a good 20 years now. It was time!

Because the canyon is on Navajo land, you must visit as part of a Navajo tour. And lucky for us, we were the ONLY ones who signed up for the 9am tour. IT WAS AMAZING!! The one thing I “knew” about visiting Antelope Canyon is that it can get pretty crowded, which can take away from the experience. But not for us. What a charmed life we lead. 🙂

Even the ride out to the canyon was an experience (in our private little safari-style jeep.)

After a bumpy 15 minutes with stunning views like these:

We arrived at the slot canyon and had the place to ourselves for most of the time there! (We did pass two other FULL tours — those poor people, lol). Check out these amazing photos:

Boat Ride

Our other big adventure during our time there was a late afternoon boat ride down the main channel and then a narrow walled side canyon. (Actually, the canyon we visited on boat was part of the same Antelope Canyon that we had hiked through in the morning…just lower elevation and filled with water.) Here are some shots of our little breezy boat ride:

What a great trip! Jac and Betsy Adventures are always an unforgettable ride!
