In December, we were Italians!
A Trip to Italy
For
our first ‘country date’, we went all out for Italy! We transformed
ourselves into Italians (cliche versions), and then went shopping that
way for some ingredients for an authentic Italian feast.
Then, we listened to Italian music while Jac taught me to make homemade pasta:
We went old school, just rolling it out on the table and cutting it into strips. It was fun.
While I pasta’d and rolled meatballs, Jac created the rest of the Italian meal.
Delicioso!
Check out this delicious feast, which we enjoyed at our cute little
Italian restaurant table: spaghetti and meatballs in red sauce, garlic
bread, and grilled zucchini and squash with parmesan (And then some
store-bought eclairs for dessert. Not Italian. Oh well.)
After dinner, we watched a cute movie set in Italy: Letters to Romeo. Jac fell asleep pretty early on so he just had to take my word for it that it was cute.
The next day we continued the Italian fun with a little still-life watercolor painting.
What masterpieces! And what a fun first country date. Next up: China!
Ideas for next time we ‘visit’ Italy:
- somehow experience some of their funny traditions, like the Ivrea’s Battle of the Oranges, Tuscany’s Flag Throwing festival, Marostica’s human chess tradition
- play one of Italy’s unique sports, like palla, bocce, or calcio storico
- make one of the cool 3D puzzles of Italian landmarks
